Eye Drops Administration Steps:
 
  1. First, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
  2. Next, check the dropper tip to make sure that it is not chipped or cracked.
  3. Avoid touching the dropper tip against your eye or anything else, eye droppers must be kept clean.
  4. While tilting your head back, pull down the lower lid of your eye with your index finger to form a pocket.
  5. Hold the dropper, tip down with the other hand, as close to the eye as possible without touching it.
  6. Brace the remaining fingers of that hand against your face.
  7. While looking up, gently squeeze the dropper so that a single drop falls into the pocket made by the lower eyelid.
  8. Remove your index finger from the lower eyelid.
  9. Close your eye for 2 to 3 minutes and tip your head down as though looking at the floor. Try not to blink or squeeze your eyelids.
  10. Place a finger on the tear duct near the inside corner of your eye and apply gentle pressure.
  11. Wipe any excess liquid from your face with a tissue.
  12. Replace and tighten the cap on the dropper bottle. Do not wipe or rinse the dropper tip.
  13. Lastly, wash your hands to remove any medication.

Ear Drops Administration Steps:
 
  1. First, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
  2. Gently clean your ear with a damp facecloth and then dry your ear.
  3. Warm the drops to near body temperature by holding the container in the palm of your hand for a few minutes.
  4. Remove the cap, do not let the tip of the bottle touch your ear, fingers, or other surfaces.
  5. Lie down on your side with the affected ear up.
  6. To open the ear canal, for an adult pull the ear backward and upward.
  7. Hold the bottle between your thumb and index finger and place the tip of the bottle close to your ear.
  8. Be careful not to touch your fingers or ear with the tip of the bottle.
  9. Gently squeeze the bottle and let 4-5 drops fall into the affected ear.
  10. Gently press on the small skin flap over the ear to help the drops to run into the ear canal.
  11. Stay in this position for 1-2 minute to help the drops soak into the ear.
  12. Put the cap back on the bottle and close it tightly.
  13. Lastly, wash your hands to remove any medication.
