Practice Compounding Prescription - Powder

Zinc Oxide 10%
Miconazole 2%
Lavender essential oil 4 gtt
Chamomile essential oil 4 gtt
Corn Starch q.s.
M & Ft. topical dusing powder
Dispense: 60 g
Sig: apply to rash BID for 7 days

  • Do not prepare excess. Prepare the exact amount prescribed.
Procedure:

  1. Weigh g of zinc oxide powder.
     
         
     
     
  2. Weigh g of miconazole powder.
     
         
     
     
  3. Weigh g of corn starch.
     
         
     
     
  4. Begin by placing the powder into a glass mortar because it is the powder with the amount.
     
     
  5. Add an approximately equal amount of powder and mix intimately using a pestle in a circular grinding motion referred to as
     
     
  6. Continue adding and mixing the second powder in roughly equal portions to the amount already in the mortar. This process is called
     
     
  7. Add 4 drops of both lavender and chamomile essential oil to the powder mixture in the mortar. These oils are used to make the powder
     
     
  8. Add the powder in roughly equal portions to the amount already in the mortar and mix thoroughly. Continue adding in portions until all has been added and the powder is uniform.
     
     
  9. Transfer 60 g of the final powder to a shaker bottle.
     
     
  10. Label & Dispense.
