  • The average weight of a Diltiazem 120 mg tablet is 180 mg

Procedure:

  1. Crush diltiazem tablets into a fine powder using a glass mortar and pestle and the process of

  3. Weigh g of crushed diltiazem powder. Appropriately dispose of the excess powder.

  5. Add the diltiazem crushed tablet powder to the glass mortar.

  6.  
     
  7. Measure mL of (commercial suspending agent) in a graduated conical.
     
         

  8.  
     
  9. wet the crushed tablet powder in the mortar using amounts of the commercial suspending agent, triturating until a smooth paste is formed.

  10.  
     
  11. Geometrically add the remaining commercial suspending agent. Triturate after each addition until uniform.

  13. Pour the contents of the mortar into a amber oval prescription bottle.

  15. Measure mL of (commercial vehicle/flavoring agent) in a graduated conical.
     
         

  16.  
     
  17. Rinse out the drug remaining in the mortar by adding approximately 5 mL of commercial vehicle/flavoring agent to the mortar, triturating, and then pour the rinsing into the prescription bottle.

  18.  
     
  19. Repeat the rinsing process until the drug is completely removed from the mortar. **Rinse at least 2 - 3 times.

  21. Check the prescription bottle and q.s. to 100 mL with

  23. Cap bottle and shake vigorously.
